What is it about?
Motor liability covers eligible claims from others. Partial or comprehensive own-damage cover can protect your vehicle against additional agreed risks.

Motor liability insurance
Motor liability insurance is compulsory for vehicles requiring registration. It checks claims for harm to other people or their property, pays valid demands within cover and defends unfounded ones. Damage to your own vehicle needs comprehensive cover. Choose adequate limits and declare vehicle use and drivers accurately.
Partial comprehensive cover
Teilkasko protects your own vehicle against specified perils such as theft, fire, broken glass, storm or hail. Animal collisions and consequential bite damage vary by plan. Accident damage caused by your own driving is normally excluded. Check the excess, payout limits and exact conditions for your vehicle.
Full comprehensive cover
Vollkasko usually includes partial comprehensive benefits plus own-fault accident damage and vandalism. Vehicle value, age, leasing terms and savings influence the need. No-claims discounts and excess affect present and future costs. For newer vehicles, review new-price replacement and, for leasing, any required GAP protection.
Roadside assistance cover
A Schutzbrief arranges agreed help after breakdown or accident, such as towing, onward travel or replacement transport. Distance rules, overseas scope and maximum amounts vary. It replaces neither liability nor comprehensive insurance. Check automobile club benefits and manufacturer mobility guarantees to avoid duplicating the same assistance.
Which rating factors affect your motor premium?
Vehicle model, postcode, annual mileage, drivers and no-claims class are important details. Parking, usage, excess and cover also affect price. Report changes as required by your contract. Compare offers using equivalent, accurate information; false details used to obtain savings can cause problems after a claim.
The Mallorca policy extension
This extension can top up liability cover for a rented vehicle abroad to agreed limits. Its territory is neither automatically worldwide nor restricted to Mallorca. It does not pay for damage to the rental vehicle itself. Check countries, rental duration, authorised drivers and existing cover in your motor policy.
Telematics insurance
Telematics evaluates agreed driving data, such as braking or speed. Positively assessed driving may earn a plan-specific discount, but savings are not guaranteed. Review data use, app or device requirements, scoring and driver changes. The underlying insurance should meet your needs even without a discount.
Eleven ways to review motor insurance costs
Savings start with accurate information and comparing equivalent benefits. These points help you review the contract systematically. Not every change suits every situation. Excesses and driver restrictions must work in everyday life; important cover should not be removed solely to obtain a lower premium.
- Compare offers with equivalent cover.
- Declare realistic annual mileage.
- Restrict drivers only where practical.
- Check an affordable excess.
- Compare annual and monthly payment options.
- Review vehicle value against comprehensive cover.
- Consider approved repairer conditions and their consequences.
- Confirm no-claims class and any special classifications.
- Compare telematics, privacy and discount conditions.
- Avoid duplicate roadside assistance or mobility benefits.
- Review new offers and the correct cancellation deadline before renewal.
The 30 November motor insurance deadline
For many annual policies ending on 31 December, cancellation must reach the insurer by 30 November. Policies renewing at another time can have a different deadline. Certain premium increases or claims create special cancellation rights with separate time limits. Check expiry and secure replacement cover before cancelling.
