What is it about?
Pet owner liability covers agreed claims arising from animals such as dogs or horses. It pays valid claims and defends unjustified claims.

How does animal owner liability insurance work?
An owner may be liable for damage caused by their animal even without personal fault, subject to specific legal exceptions. Insurance checks claims, pays valid ones within the policy and defends unfounded demands. It does not pay your own animal’s treatment bills. Limits, species and use must match ownership.
Liability insurance for dogs
Dogs generally need dedicated liability cover rather than ordinary personal liability. Legal requirements depend on the federal state and the dog’s classification, among other factors. Check rented property, other carers, leash conditions and overseas scope. Declare every dog to be insured and relevant ownership changes.
Liability insurance for horses
An escaped horse or riding accident can create substantial claims. Check other riders, shared riding arrangements, foals, breeding damage and damage to land. Commercial use and riding lessons are not automatically included. Activities, people and limits must fit; pet health or surgery insurance does not cover these liability risks.
Liability insurance for other animals
Tame small pets and cats may be included in personal liability, depending on the contract. Exotic animals and unusual ownership arrangements require separate assessment. Do not assume that every animal is included. We clarify the species, private or commercial keeping and relevant exclusions.
