What is it about?
Cancellation, curtailment and baggage cover protect different risks. A claim requires a covered event and the relevant policy conditions.

What is travel insurance?
Travel insurance covers different risks before and during a trip, including illness, cancellation, early return and baggage damage. Single-trip and annual policies differ in duration and insured people. Choose modules according to destination, costs and existing protection rather than automatically buying every available benefit.
Overseas travel health insurance
It can cover agreed treatment abroad and repatriation under the policy. German statutory cover is limited overseas and generally does not pay for medical repatriation. Check trip length, countries, existing conditions and medically reasonable rather than only necessary repatriation. Extended stays or overseas work often need specialised cover.
Trip cancellation insurance
It pays agreed cancellation charges if an insured reason prevents you from starting a trip. An unexpected serious illness is a typical trigger; mere worry or a change of plans is insufficient. Purchase deadlines, insured trip price and excess matter. Report the reason promptly and coordinate cancellation.
Trip interruption insurance
This module applies after departure when an insured event requires early return or interruption. It may reimburse additional travel home and unused trip services. Definitions, evidence and maximum amounts vary. A cancellation-only policy does not necessarily include interruption, so assess the two modules separately.
Baggage insurance
It protects agreed personal travel items against defined events. Electronics, jewellery and unattended bags often have special limits and care requirements. Not every loss is insured. Check temporary contents cover away from home and claims against carriers before allocating money to additional baggage insurance.
Travel insurance included with credit cards
A credit card may include travel benefits, but conditions vary substantially. Some require the trip to be paid with that card. Check insured people, duration, excess and exclusions. A card name or advertising promise is insufficient evidence; compare the current insurance terms with your actual itinerary.
Which travel insurance do you need?
For overseas travel, health cover deserves particular attention because treatment and repatriation can be costly. Cancellation and interruption matter especially for substantial non-refundable expenses. Baggage protection is a separate budget choice. Review existing benefits, accompanying relatives and maximum trip lengths so cover matches the journey.
